The Challenge
SmoothSail Sake was a sparkling ready-to-drink sake brand available in cans across flavors like berry, peach, and cucumber mint. As a newer brand, they needed content that could build awareness, communicate their product's flavor and personality, and keep their social media active and engaging.
They also needed a creative partner who could take the lead. Rather than coming with a set creative direction, founders Sandeep and Peter trusted Sean to develop the concepts, present options, and execute the work.
What We Did
Sean worked with SmoothSail Sake across several projects spanning a few months, producing photos, GIFs, and video content used across their social media and marketing campaigns.
The relationship started with a single project early in Sean's career. The quality of that work led to repeat projects, and what began as a single job grew into an ongoing content partnership with the founding team.
Product and Beverage Photography
The standout creative piece from the partnership was an underwater splash series. Sean submerged SmoothSail cans into a clear tub of water and captured the moment from below the surface, with the can and fresh fruits visible through the water. The concept communicated flavor cues while giving the content a dynamic, visually compelling quality that stood out on social media.
The technical challenge was significant. Getting a clean label read mid-splash, without the branding covered by bubbles or the can rotating out of frame, required a high volume of attempts to nail down. The final images looked clean, intentional, and brand-ready.
Promotional Video
Sean also produced a promotional video for the brand that showcased the product alongside key talking points and messaging, built for social media use.
Monthly Social Content
Beyond the launch and video projects, Sean produced ongoing monthly content batches to keep SmoothSail's social presence active and consistent.
How we worked together
The creative process was largely driven by Sean. Sandeep and Peter would ship product, share the number of deliverables they needed, and give Sean the space to develop the concepts.
From there, Sean built a shot list of ideas, presented the options to the founders, and moved forward with the approved selections. That process gave the team creative input and final approval without requiring them to manage every production detail.
It was a lean, trust-based workflow that worked well for a small founding team focused on building their brand.
What this unlocked for SmoothSail
Across several projects, SmoothSail built a content library that gave their brand a visual identity on social media.
The underwater splash series gave them a hero piece of content that was both technically distinctive and flavor-forward. The promotional video gave them a tool to communicate their brand story. The monthly content kept their feed active and consistent during a critical period of brand building.
The partnership also marked an important moment in Sean's early career. A single project growing into an ongoing relationship with a brand's founders is a reflection of what consistent, quality work can build over time.
